Brokenshire Accused Of 'Hiding' Over Legacy Issues

Sinn Fein has accused NI Secretary James Brokenshire of "hiding" over the legacy issues.

Northern leader Michelle O'Neill called on Mr Brokenshire to release the funds immediately so that victims and their families can have inquests into the death of their loved ones.

Speaking at a protest with the Ballymurphy and McGurk’s Massacre families she said: "I am pleased to stand in solidarity with these families today but they shouldn't have to be here, campaigning for a basic human right.

"They have suffered the grievous loss of their loved ones killed by the British state in Ballymurphy 45 years ago and in the loyalist McGurk’s Bar bombing.

"James Brokenshire and the British government need to stop hiding behind the issue of national security.

"These families have the right to an inquest. It should not be subject to a political veto.

"The British government needs to stop being a blocking mechanism. They need to deliver for these families."
