SF Leader Slams UK Goverment
Sinn Féin President Gerry Adams has hit out at the UK government and claims it is going to "repeat the mistakes of the past".
NI Secretary of State James Brokenshire is meeting with Stormont party leaders to discuss forming a new power-sharing executive.
Mr Adams said: "The British Government has consistently refused to implement the agreements, have sought to impose Brexit against the will of the people and the best interests of the economy. They have sought a special deal to ensure that no British soldier and their agents can be held to account for their action during the conflict.
"Remember the British Conservatives got only 2379 votes in last week’s election.
"The approach of James Brokenshire and the British Government is part of the problem. Without a fundamental change in the approach of the British government, there can be no progress.
“" am concerned that the Irish government is turning a blind eye to the belligerent approach of the British government. This is totally unacceptable. The Irish government is a co-equal guarantor of the Good Friday and other agreements.
"The Taoiseach needs to fulfil this duty."
The parties have three weeks to reach an agreement and if a government cannot be form within that time another election will be called.
