Police Describe Shooting Of Teenager As 'Child Abuse'

Police have described the shooting of a 16-year-old boy in west Belfast as "child abuse".

The teenager was attacked in the Springfield Road area at around 8.50pm on Thursday, 16 February.

He was taken to hospital to be treated for his injures where his condition has been described as stable.

This is the second shooting incident in west Belfast in the last 24 hours.

A man is also in a stable condition after being shot in the legs in the Falls Road area on Wednesday, 15 February.

PSNI Chief Superintendent Chris Noble said: "Last night saw an attack on a 16 year old boy. Any civilised society would see that for what it is – child abuse.

"There is only one police service in west Belfast and that is the PSNI. The dogs in the street may well know who is responsible but what I need as the local police Commander is for people to come forward and give me any information, however apparently irrelevant that our specialist detectives can use to secure a conviction.

"Information is key in these crimes where victims are often traumatised and people emerge from and run back into the shadows. These criminals and facilitators of drug dealers need to get off the backs of the community and let us get on with making things better for everyone.

"I would encourage anyone that has any information regarding the recent shooting incidents or any criminal activity in the west Belfast area to contact police immediately on 101."

Sinn Féin's Fra McCann condemned the shooting.

He said: "There can be no justification for such actions and whoever is responsible needs to stop. I would encourage anyone with information to bring it forward to the PSNI."

A man was shot in the leg at Creeslough Gardens at around 21:30 on Wednesday night. It is understood that victim is in his 40s and his injuries are not life threatening.

PSNI Appeal For Information On West Belfast Shooting
The PSNI have issued an appeal for information and witnesses following a shooting incident in West Belfast. It was reported to the police at 11:05pm on Monday 26th June, that a man in his thirties was shot in the leg and found in the Divis Street area of West Belfast. Officers attended the scene as well as the Ambulance service.

Police are appealing for information after a man was shot in both legs and arms at a house in west Belfast. The PSNI said that masked gunmen forced their way into a house on Hawthorne Street at about 21:15 on Tuesday night. The victim, who has not been named, was shot a number of times in his legs and arms.

Police reissue appeal over city shooting
Police in west Belfast have reissued their appeal for information in relation to the shooting of a teenager last weekend. The incident happened in the early hours of Saturday morning, when 18-year-old Conor Welding was approached by two men and shot in the Ard Na Va area of the Falls Road in west Belfast.
