Voter Registration Closes Today At 5pm

5pm today is the deadline to register to vote in the upcoming Assembly election.

Anyone who has not yet registered to vote are encouraged to complete the process before 5pm today, Tuesday, 14 February.

People will go to the polls on 02 March, following the collapse of the Northern Ireland Executive at the beginning of January.

Online and postal registration is now closed, however, registration forms can be downloaded from the Electoral Officer for Northern Ireland website. Once the form is completed it needs to be returned to your local Area Electoral office, along with a form of ID.

The EONI said that if an application is received by today's deadline, applicants will have until 20 February to provided necessary supporting documentations.

A recall petition calling for a by-election to contest suspended North Antrim MP Ian Paisley will close today at 5pm. The petition was launched after the DUP MP was suspended from both Westminster and his own party after it was found that he had failed to declare two family holidays to Sri Lanka.

Mother and daughter die in road crash
A road traffic accident in Co Down has claimed the lives of a woman and her seven-year-old daughter. The accident occurred on the Comber Road at its junction with Landsdowne Road in Newtownards at around 5pm yesterday.
