Viable Bomb Found In South Belfast

A viable bomb has been discovered in south Belfast.

The PSNI received reports that a suspicious object was found in the Markets area shortly after 11pm on Thursday, 09 February.

Army bomb disposal experts attended the scene and made the device safe.

Stanfield Place was closed overnight and the viable bomb has been taken away for further examination.

Sinn Féin councillor Deirdre Hargey said: "This device could have endangered the resident in question and other residents in the area.

"An area was sealed off by police and the bomb defused on site.

"There can be no justification for this attack and I would appeal to anyone with information to contact the police."

The pipe bomb has been removed for further examination. Police are appealing for anyone with information to contact them.

Viable Device Found During Security Alert In South Belfast
A viable device has been found during a security alert in south Belfast. Residents had to be evacuated from their homes after a suspicious object was found in the Lavinia Square area on Thursday night, 16 November. Army bomb disposal experts attended the scene and the area was sealed off. The device has been taken away for further examination.

Police have issued an appeal for information following a security alert in east Belfast. At about 17:00 on Wednesday 13 October, police responded to reports of a suspicious object outside a house on Orby Drive, off Gand Parade.

Pipe Bomb May Have Been Thrown At Police
A pipe bomb may have been thrown at PSNI officers in north Belfast, it has been revealed. The announcement follows the discovery of the device during a security alert on the Whitewell Road on Wednesday night. The viable device was located close to commercial premises and led to a number of homes being evacuated at about 23:00 on Wednesday evening.
