City Council announces further culture and arts funding
Belfast City Council has announced a further investment of £140,000 in the city's culture and arts with the second year of its Development and Outreach Initiative.
The initiative aims to make it easier for people in areas of Belfast where there is currently little culture and arts activity to experience the arts and heritage – and to build cultural skills.
Minimum grants will be in the region of £2,000 and maximum grants approximately £20,000. Of the £140,000 which will be invested in Development and Outreach projects, £10,000 will be allocated to projects which increase opportunities for young people to participate in the arts or to explore the city’s heritage.
Giving her support for the initiative, Marie-Thérèse McGivern, Director of Development with Belfast City Council, said: “Belfast City Council has invested in the Development and Outreach initiative because it wants as many people as possible throughout the city to be able to experience the arts and to explore the city’s heritage.
"This funding is creating important opportunities for community groups to work closely with cultural producers in the city to deliver the types of arts and heritage programmes which really interest them – and making it possible for established venues and organizations to reach out to areas of the city which may feel excluded from cultural activity”.
Application forms, details of target areas and criteria are available from Belfast City Council’s Culture and Arts Unit on 028 9027 0461 and can be downloaded from the funding section of www.belfastcity.gov.uk/arts.
