Man Charged Over Murder Of Anita Downey

A 51-year-old man has been charged with the murder of Anita Downey in Lurgan, Co Armagh.

Ms Downey, 51, was found dead at a house in the early hours of Friday morning, 20 January.

The man is to appear before Lisburn Magistrates Court today, 23 January.

Detective Inspector David McGrory said: "Our enquiries into the murder of Anita are continuing and I would like to take this opportunity to ask the public for their assistance in locating a missing mobile phone which I believe has been missing somewhere in the Lurgan area since around 9pm on the evening of Thursday 19 January. I would ask anyone finding a phone anywhere in the Lurgan area to contact detectives at the incident room in Mahon Road station on 101."

David Lyness has been found guilty of the murder of Anita Downey and been sentenced to a minimum of 18 years in jail before he can be considered for parole. Anita Downey (51) was murdered on 20 January, 2017 at the home of David Lyness at Toberhewny Hall. Lyness was found guilty and sentenced at Belfast Crown Court on Friday, 31 August.

Fresh Appeal For Information On Shane Whitla Murder
PSNI detectives investigating the murder of 39-year-old Shane Whitla in Lurgan have issued an appeal for information and witnesses. A post-mortem examination confirmed that Mr Whitla died of a gunshot wound to the chest. According to report, he had also suffered a serious puncture wound to his neck.
