Aussie pop babe adds to Belfast's festive colour

Australian pop babe, Holly Valance is set to kick off Belfast's Christmas period by performing live in the city.

The former Neighbours star will be joined by local boy band Unity and the Botanic Primary School choir as the city's Christmas Lights are turned on next Thursday evening.

Belfast City Council has joined forces with BBC Northern Ireland and the annual ‘Children in Need’ to organise the event which begins at 6.30pm.

Meanwhile, rock legends Status Quo have announced they are to play Belfast's Waterfront Hall next March.

The three chord rockers included Belfast on the 40 date UK tour to promote their new album, 'Riffs' which is released next week.

Tickets are already on sale for Waterfront Hall appearance which takes place on Saturday 6th March 2004.

St Patrick's Day event has support of BCC says councillor
The Chairman of Belfast City Council’s Good Relations Steering Panel has challenged claims that the Council is not supporting St Patrick’s Day in Belfast. It follows a protest outside Belfast City Hall last week by the St Patrick's Carnival Committee who claim the Council isn't funding this year's event at the City Hall.

Belfast City Hall set for traditional arrival
One of the most famous Christmas trees in Northern Ireland is set to take up its traditional seasonal position this weekend. Each year, a tree measuring between 40 and 50 feet tall stands at the front of the City Hall in Belfast, heralding the arrival of the Yuletide in the City.

Ministers Call For An End To The Flag Protests
The First and deputy First Minister have called for an end to the loyalist protests against the decision to reduce the number of days the Union flag is to fly at Belfast City Hall. In their statement, Peter Robinson and Martin McGuinness said: "We recognise and support the right to peaceful protest but the way forward is through dialogue.
