Orange Hall Attack Condemned
Alliance Councillor Barney Fitzpatrick has condemned the people behind an attack on Garryduff Independent Orange Hall in Co Antrim.
Councillor Fitzpatrick said: "Attacks on Orange Halls serve no purpose and need to be condemned in the strongest possible terms. I would urge anyone with information about this attack to pass it to the police."
Work On £1.2m Road Project Complete Ahead Of Schedule In Co Down
Work on a £1.2 million road improvement project has been completed in County Down, two months ahead of schedule.
The scheme, at Temple Crossroads, included a new four leg roundabout at the junction of the A24 Carryduff Road and B6 Saintfield Road.
Work on the Park and Share facility on the western side of the Saintfield Road, close to local bus stops, has also recently been completed ahead of schedule. It now offers more people the opportunity to access sustainable transport on this key route.
The contractor still has some landscaping works to carry out.
Call For Punishment To Fit The Crime
The Ulster Unionist Party's Justice spokesperson, Doug Beattie MC MLA, has called for punishments to fit the crime.
He was speaking after the Court of Appeal chose to increase the sentence of a drunk driver who knocked down and killed Queen's University architecture student Enda Dolan in October 2014.
He said: "The tragic death of Enda Dolan was a crime that shocked society and my sympathies are very much with his family who have conducted themselves in a most dignified manner throughout what has undoubtedly been a horrendous ordeal.
"This was a case where someone chose to consume 13 drinks, take drugs and then get behind the wheel of a car. It was no accident. It was a deliberate act, done with the full knowledge that it was illegal and of what the consequences could be. Given the circumstances it would be very easy to bring a charge of murder or at the very least manslaughter, and the sentence should reflect that.
"As a result of the Appeal Court's decision to extend the original sentence, David Lee Stewart will now serve four and a half years behind bars and the same again on licence.
"Even this will be regarded by many – myself included – as unduly lenient. If they are to be meaningful, then sentences must act both as a deterrent and also as a punishment that fits the crime to which they are attached. The Assembly and the Justice Minister must now take action to ensure that our judges and magistrates have access to sentences which are more in line with what the public regard as proportionate to the crime committed and the damage caused."

Summer Road Safety Campaign Launches
All road users in Northern Ireland has been urged to take care on the roads over the holiday period to "make sure they and their loved ones get home safe". Making the call, Infrastructure Minister John O'Dowd said: "Tragically, so far this year 34 people have set out on a routine journey and have lost their lives.
