Drop In Number Of People Claiming Unemployment Benefits
There has been a drop in the number of people claiming unemployment benefits in Northern Ireland.
According to the Northern Ireland Statistics and Research Agency (NISRA), 500 fewer people were claiming unemployment benefits in November, bring the total to 33,600.
The Northern Ireland rate of 5.7% is above the UK average.

The number of people claiming unemployment benefits in Northern Ireland has dropped to 38,700, a decrease of 500 over the month. New figures released for the period September to November 2015 show that the Northern Ireland Labour Force Survey unemployment rate was 5.9%, a drop of 0.1% over the quarter.

Key findings of the Labour Market Report, published today, include: • Over the quarter and the year, the employment rate increased and the economic inactivity rate decreased.

According to the latest Labour Force Survey (LFS) the measure of unemployment showed a slight increase over the quarter in July, however it fell over the year. The long term unemployment rate was 58.0%, an increase of 6.1% on the previous year.
