Three people charged with arms offences in Londonderry

A man and two women have appeared before Londonderry Magistrates Court today on firearms charges.

John Hugh Bradey, 34, from Lisnafin Park, Strabane, Diane McGlinchy, 26, from Ballycolman Estate, Strabane, and a woman identified by police as Mary Burns whose address is said to be Brookhill Avenue in Belfast, were accused of having a revolver and a semi-automatic pistol with intent to endanger life.

None of the three accused responded in court when asked to confirm their identity.

The court heard that one of the accused women had refused to identify herself and that police had used photographic evidence discovered in a subsequent search to identify the woman whom they believed to be Mary Burns.

The firearms charges relate to the finding of two guns in a car stopped by police near the border on the Letterkenny Road in Londonderry on Friday November 7.

Supporters of the accused cheered and clapped in court when the three appeared under heavy police guard.

All three were remanded in custody to appear by video link on November 13.
