NIHE Tenants Urged To Be Aware Of Bogus Callers

The Northern Ireland Housing Executive (NIHE) has issued a warning to tenants living in the Larne area to be aware of bogus callers following a burglary.

Bogus callers, claiming to be from the NIHE, gained access to a home in the Craigy Hill area and stole a number of items including a sum of money.

Mid and East Antrim Area Manager, Mairead Myles Davey, said: "We understand the bogus callers told the tenants they were there to carry out work to the garden.

"While one tenant was distracted in the garden with one of the callers, two accomplices ransacked the house. This robbery has been very distressing for the people living at this property.

"We would ask local residents to be on their guard when opening the door. All our staff carry identification and their identity can be verified by calling the phone number printed on the pass. If in doubt, contact your local Housing Executive office or the police."

Lunn Condemns Memorial Attack

Alliance Justice spokesperson Trevor Lunn MLA has condemned an attack on a memorial in North Belfast.

The monument at Ballysillan Avenue, commemorating three fusiliers from Scotland who were killed by the IRA in 1971, had paint thrown over it.

Mr Lunn said the incident was "a cowardly act".

"There can never be any justification for these attacks. This will undoubtedly cause hurt to the families of the deceased soldiers and every right-thinking person.

"Those responsible should be ashamed of themselves, as they have no respect for the dead and are clearly intend on damaging community relations.

"I urge anyone with information on this incident to contact police immediately."
