Viable Pipe Bomb Made Safe In L'Derry
An investigation has been launched following the discovery of a suspected pipe bomb in L'Derry last night.
Police were alerted to reports of a suspicious device on Westland Street at around 8.45pm on Thursday. The road was closed and a number of houses were evacuated while a security operation was carried out.
Army bomb experts were called in to examine the device which was declared viable before being made safe and removed for further examination.
Anyone with information about the incident is asked to contact police.

Suspect package declared a hoax
A suspect device found in north Belfast on Friday has been declared a hoax. The package was discovered at a telephone control box on Glenview Street. Army bomb experts were immediately called in and the area between Old Park Road and Park View Court was immediately sealed off. It has since been reopened.

TWO elderly Protestant sisters have escaped injury after a petrol bomb attack on their East Belfast home. The women, aged 73 and 79, escaped injury after a passing police patrol discovered a fire at their home and forced their way into the house in the early hours of Wednesday morning.

A viable pipe bomb has been found in north Belfast, police have confirmed. Police and army bomb experts discovered the device in the garden of a house in Shore Crescent on Monday. The pipe bomb has been removed for further examination. Police are appealing for anyone with information to contact them.
