Man suffers broken neck in attack

SDLP Foyle Assembly candidate Pat Ramsey has condemned the assault of a man in Londonderry which the victim left with a broken neck.

Stephen Quigley, 29, was approached and punched on the Strand Road in the city in the early hours of Monday morning.

Condemning the attack, Mr Ramsey said: "Coming in the week after we had such a successful Hallowe'en Carnival here in Derry with very little trouble on a streets, these assaults do nothing for our attempts to promote our city.

"I would urge anybody with any information relating to either of these assaults to contact the PSNI immediately so that those responsible can be brought to justice. We do not want people capable of such brutality walking our streets with impunity."

Mr Quigley's mother said she was leaving the recovery of her son "in God's hands" but would be hoping and praying.
