PSNI report a decrease in 'punishment' attacks
The number of paramilitary-style attacks in Northern Ireland has decreased, according to new figures from the PSNI.
Released today, the statistics based on Northern Ireland's crime rate and police performance for 2003 showed that paramilitary-style attacks resulted in 161 casualties over the period April 1 to October 15, 2003, a decrease of 28 compared to the same period last year.
Addressing a meeting of the Northern Ireland Policing Board today, Chief Constable Hugh Orde said that using provisional figures, an increase in detection rates had also been recorded, with figures rising from 21.7% in 2002 to 23.1% this year.
There was a large increase in the amount of cannabis resin seized over the period April to September 2003 with 903,894 grams compared with 403,645 grams during the same period last year.
A total of 690 persons were arrested for drug offences this year, compared to 605 last year.

NI Unemployment Falls
Northern Ireland's unemployment has continued to fall by 0.5% over the past quarter, according to the latest Labour Force Survey (LFS). Unemployment in Northern Ireland was estimated at 7.3% for the period June - August 2013. This is down 0.5% from the rate recorded in the previous quarter (7.8%) and 0.8% from the rate recorded one year ago (8.1%).

Rise in NI unemployment figures
The number of people unemployed in Northern Ireland is on the increase according to the latest figures. Labour force statistics released on Wednesday revealed that some 46,000 people are unemployed, a rise of 3,000 on the this time last year.

New Period Products Bill To Be Introduced Into The Assembly
A new Period Products Bill, which aims to address period poverty across Northern Ireland by making free period products available in schools, colleges and all other public buildings, is to be introduced into the Assembly. The Bill, introduced by the SDLP's Pat Catney, is due to undergo its first reading in the Assembly.

Latest labour market figures has shown that employment figures have risen in Northern Ireland over the past year, while the number of unemployed has fallen. The seasonally adjusted unemployment rate of 5% for the period April – June 2005 was up from 4.7% in the previous quarter, but down from a rate of 5.3% for the same period last year.
