Maiden City hits 'bullseye' with Darts Open

Some of the world's best darts players are coming to Northern Ireland this weekend for the Northern Ireland Open Darts Tournament in Londonderry.

The competition, which is being hosted by the Northern Ireland Darts Organisation, will take on the same significance as the England, Scotland and Wales counterpart competitions as the World Darts Federation and the British Darts Organisation has awarded world-ranking points to the Men’s and Ladies Singles for this year's competition.

Among this year's competitors will be current world champion, Raymond Van Barneveld and the World Masters Champion, Tony West.

Welcoming the prestigious competition to the city, the Mayor, Councillor Shaun Gallagher said it was a tremendous boost to the local economy.

“This is a fantastic tournament which will see darts players and their fans from all over coming to the city to enjoy this event."

The tournament commences at the Hastings Everglades Hotel on Saturday at 12 noon and has a total prize money of over £5,000.

There will be individual men’s, ladies and youth tournaments as well as a mixed pairs section.
