Two Pupils Struck By Car In Banbridge

Two schoolgirls have been hit by a car near a school in Banbridge, Co Down.

The incident happened on the Scarva Road at around 4pm on Monday, 17 October.

The girls, aged 10 and 11, are both being treated in hospital. One is believed to be in a stable condition and the other girl's injuries are not believed to be life threatening.

The road was closed, however it has since been reopened.

Upper Bann DUP MLA Carla Lockhart said: "The accident happened on the Scarva Road, at the crossing close to the chapel in Banbridge outside a local primary school this afternoon. I understand two school children were involved in a one vehicle road traffic collision at a crossing.

"My thoughts and prayers go out to the children, and the driver, who are involved in this incident. I hope the children will make a full recovery during what will be a worrying time for their parents and all involved."

DUP MP David Simpson said: "My thoughts and prayers are with all those involved in this incident. I praise those who acted quickly at the scene and I hope that the children will make a full recovery.

"Road safety should be first and foremost in our minds and I urge all road users to take due caution, particularly during busy periods."
