Training success honoured at Belfast gala dinner

A total of 24 local organisations, businesses and individuals have scooped 33 awards in this year’s prestigious National Training Awards competition.

Nine organisations were singled out from hundreds of entries across the UK to receive the ultimate accolade of a National Award for demonstrating exceptional achievement made through training and development.

The winners, who are now automatically considered for a UK Special National Training Award, were: Newtownabbey Borough Council; St Anne’s PS, Derry; RNIB Northern Ireland - ‘Through Windows Project’; Langford Lodge Engineering, Crumlin; Quinn Glass, Derrylin; The Streat – Café chain; Belfast Education and Library Board – BELBclean project; STEER Mental Health and North West Institute of Further and Higher Education, Derry; and Police Rehabilitation and Retraining Trust.

Congratulating all the award winners during a celebration dinner at Belfast City Hall on Tuesday night, Alan Shannon, Permanent Secretary at the Department for Employment and Learning, said: "Once again Northern Ireland has proven itself as the torchbearer for training excellence in its outstanding achievements in the National Training Awards.

"The success stories I have heard tonight highlight the importance of investing in our most valuable asset, people, in order to achieve success in business."

This was the 16th year of the competition in Northern Ireland and this year the theme for the City Hall event was 'Success Stories'.
