Arson link to firefighter's death in Limavady
Police have confirmed that hotel fire in Limavady that claimed the life of a firefighter at the weekend was arson.
Firefighter Joe McCloskey, 50, from Dungiven, died in hospital on Sunday after he fell through the roof of a store room at Gorteen House Hotel as he tackled a blaze.
The father of five from Dungiven suffered extensive burns to his body as colleagues struggled to rescue him from the inferno.
Five firefighters who suffered minor injuries and smoke inhalation during their rescue of their colleague have been offered expert counselling.
Northern Ireland's Chief Fire Officer, Colin Lammey, paid tribute to Mr McCloskey who was a 25-year veteran. He said that the death of Mr McCloskey had been a deep shock to his colleagues.
Forensic tests carried out to establish the likely cause of the blaze revealed that the fire had been started deliberately.
Detectives in Limavady who are investigating the incident have appealed for anyone who was at the Gorteen House Hotel or at Jensen's nightclub on Friday night or Saturday morning to contact them.

Top training award for Derry Airport Fire Fighter
A senior City of Derry Airport fire fighter has been awarded a top training award at the International Fire Training School in Teesside, Co. Durham. Fire Officer Gerard McCloskey, from Dungiven, who has been working as a fire fighter at the Airport for the past 15 years, was awarded Top Student of the Year at an awards ceremony earlier this month.
