Man Dies Following 'Violent Incident' In Belfast
A man who died after police used CS Spray to restrain him following a "violent incident" in Belfast has been named locally as Gerard McMahon.
The incident happened on Great Victoria Street in Belfast at around 5am on Thursday, 08 September.
It is understood he was involved in an altercation with taxi drivers in the area.
Police officers used CS Spray and he was taken to hospital.
The Police Ombudsman confirmed the man had passed away.
An investigation has been launched and police are appealing for any witnesses to contact them.
Sinn Féin MLA Gerry Kelly said: "I am shocked to learn that Gerard McMahon has died.
"My thoughts are with his family at this tragic time.
"I have been in touch with senior police about the circumstances which led to Gerard being rushed to hospital.
"The Police Ombudsman has already launched an investigation into the detention of Gerard McMahon.
"That investigation must be thorough so that his grieving family get the full facts as quickly as possible about the circumstances which led to his death."

The woman died from bleeding to the brain on 24 February 2014, the day after she suffered the injury.

Man Shot In Both Legs In West Belfast
A man has been shot in both legs in west Belfast. The victim was found in an alleyway in the Iris Court area at around 8.40pm on Wednesday, 29 November. He is currently being treated in hospital, however his injuries are not believed to be life threatening. Police are appealing for anyone with information to contact them.

Man Found Dead In Banbridge Named
A man found dead in Banbridge, Co Down, has been named as Richard Gerard Scullion. A murder investigation has launched after his body was found at a house in the Millmount court area on Monday, 09 July. A 28-year-old man arrested on Monday remains in police custody after the PSNI were granted an extension.

ARA freeze assets of £400,000
An alleged fuel smuggler has had assets valued at £400,000 seized by the Assets Recovery Agency, it has been revealed. An Interim Receiving Order (IRO) was granted to the agency, to freeze the business and property belonging to Liam Davidson after it was alleged he had assisted another man in laundering the proceeds of crime.
