Concern as Lisburn factory poised to axe 55 jobs
Leading Alliance councillor, Seamus Close has expressed his "alarm" following news of jobs cuts at a Lisburn based thread-making factory.
Around 55 jobs are to go at Coats Barbour in Hilden, near Lisburn, reducing the company's workforce in the plant to just over 100.
Mr Close said: "I am extremely alarmed at the news which has got to be viewed seriously.
"Barbour threads have got long and historic links with Hilden and it is incumbent that all the stops are pulled out to ensure that these links remain."
Management at the firm blamed the cuts on financial losses and a continued fall in demand for its products.
The first of the redundancies will begin next spring.
