Man Arrested On Suspicion Of Hijacking In Co Down

A 24-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of hijacking in Newtownards, Co Down.

A man, aged in his 50s, was approached by a man armed with a knife after parking outside his house in the Trasnagh Drive area at around 4.30pm on Thursday, 11 August.

The suspect demanded the man hand over his car keys. He drove off in the direction of Scrabo Road.

The vehicle was located a short time later in Downpatrick.

The 24-year-old has been arrested on suspicion of hijacking, possession of an article with a blade or point and driving whilst disqualified.

He has been detained in police custody.

Man stabbed in car hijacking
Police are appealing for witnesses after a man was stabbed during a car hijacking in Co Antrim on Tuesday. The incident occurred at the Kingsway Complex in Dunmurry at around 10pm. The man was getting into his vehicle when he was approached by another man who demanded his keys.

Man Arrested On Suspicion Of Murder After Man Dies Following Attack
A 35-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of murder after a man died from his injuries after being assaulted in Coleraine. Mark Lamont, 54, was seriously injured after he was attacked outside a house on the Ballycastle Road in September. He died in the Royal Victoria Hospital in Belfast on Tuesday, 11 October.

Man Arrested On Suspicion Of Attempted Murder
A man has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder over an attack in Coleraine, Co L'Derry. A man, aged in his 50s, is in a critical condition in hospital after he was assaulted at a house on the Ballycastle Road on Monday, 26 September. Two other men were also arrested and have been released on bail pending further enquiries.
