Book Of Condolence Opens For Former Bishop Edward Daly

The Mayor of Derry City and Strabane District Council, Alderman Hilary McClintock, has opened a Book of Condolence for former Bishop Edward Daly at the Guildhall in L'Derry.

Dr Daly passed away on Monday, 08 August, after a long illness.

He was pictured waving a blood-stained handkerchief over one of the Bloody Sunday victims in 1972.

Ald. McClintock said: "I know that through his work Bishop Daly has touched the lives of thousands of people and he occupies a special place in the hearts of many people from this city.

"His work in achieving peace has secured his place in the history books but it is his kindness, compassion and dedication to the city which will be remembered first and foremost by so many local people. Many today will mourn the passing of Bishop Daly, who was awarded the Freedom of the City last year in acknowledgement of his work."
