UK Firm Acquires Three NI Care Homes
A UK firm has bought three care homes in Northern Ireland.
Runwood Homes has acquired Ashbrooke Care Home in Enniskillen, Ard Mhacha Care Home in Armagh and Geanann Care Home in Dungannon.
All of the care homes are registered with the RQIA to provide 192 places for the care of older people with varying care needs.
First Minister Arlene Foster MLA, said: "This is a major investment in our local private care sector by Runwood Care Homes and reflects the desire of the group to provide a model of best practice for older people in the community. I wish them success in this venture as the care homes are in my locality."
Northern Ireland Director of Operations John Rafferty said: "I am delighted with this acquisition as the three care homes are a good strategic fit with our operation in Northern Ireland and complement our portfolio of homes. I look forward to working with the local communities attached to these homes and I assure the key stakeholders that we will deliver a model of innovative and evidenced based care practices."

A £5 million support package has been announced to help Northern Ireland's care home sector with rising energy costs. Care homes, like the rest of society, have been dealing with sharply rising energy prices. The £5m funding will be allocated by HSC Trusts on the basis of bed numbers per home.

Macklin Care Homes, which operates six homes in Northern Ireland, has developed a scheme to equip unemployed members of society with recognised qualifications in health and social care skills.

Owned by private operator Four Seasons the homes to close are Victoria Park Care Home and Stormont Care Home in Belfast; Antrim Care Home; Garvagh Care Home; Donaghcloney Care Home near Banbridge; Oakridge Care Home in Ballynahinch and Hamilton Court in Armagh.

Nine Residential Care Homes To Close
The Northern Health and Social Care Trust is set to close all nine of its residential care homes starting in November this year, according to Unison. Two homes, Pinewood in Ballymena and Westlands in Cookstown are to close in November, followed by Rathmoyle in Moyle in January 2014.
