Family escape serious injury in house fire

A family in west Belfast have escaped almost certain death after their house was destroyed in an oil tank fire.

The Fire Brigade believe the blaze, which erupted at Cresslough Court in the Lenadoon area, may have been started deliberately.

The family – two adults and six teenagers – managed to escape out the front door of their home as the fire spread from the back of the house.

The blaze also spread to a neighbouring house although it was not so severely damaged.

It is believed the family's smoke alarm had been disconnected.
