Tributes Paid After Linfield Supporter Dies At Windsor Park

Linfield Football Club has paid tribute to a supporter who collapsed and died during a football match at Windsor Stadium in Belfast.

Emergency services rushed to help the man however they were unable to save him.

In a statement the club said: "The sympathy and condolences of everyone at Linfield FC are extended to the family and friends of the Linfield supporter who sadly passed away during tonight's Europa League game at Windsor Park."

Linfield FC Captain Andy Waterworth tweeted: "Terrible, terrible news hearing the passing of a Blue man tonight at game.

"Thoughts and prayers to family. So sad. RIP."

The name of the man has not been released.

Windsor Park Revamp Set For Kick-Off
Belfast-based soccer club, Linfield FC members have given their approval to a £30m redevelopment plan for its Windsor Park ground. The move would create a 20,000 all-seater stadium that will also be used for Northern Ireland international games. The members voted by a large majority to support a draft agreement between the club and Irish FA.

Windsor Park dispute continues
Linfield Football Club (LFC) are seeking legal advice following recent concerns shown by the Irish Football Association (IFA) over the safety and condition of Windsor Park, home to both Linfield and Northern Ireland. A statement was released this week by LFC in response to a letter from the IFA that purported to terminate their existing contract.

Windsor Park 'safe' says club Chairman
Linfield Chairman David Crawford has stated that Windsor Park is safe. Mr Crawford's statement is a bid to reassure fans of the ground's safety ahead of the Northern Ireland friendly against Wales on Tuesday.

Linfield knocked out of Uefa Cup
All-Ireland champions Linfield have been sent crashing out of this year's Uefa Cup following a 4-2 defeat (5-3 on aggregate) to Halmstads of Sweden at Windsor Park. David Jeffrey's men went into Thursday's game full of hope after securing a 1-1 draw in the opening away leg two weeks ago.
