Refurb Work Complete At Playing Fields In West Belfast
Refurbishment work has been completed at Woodlands Playing Fields in west Belfast.
Belfast City Council teamed up with the GAA and invested a total of £2.1 million.
The site now has three full size GAA pitches, including a 3G floodlit pitch. All three pitches can be used for other sports such as soccer and rugby. Players can now also take advantage of a new eight room changing pavilion and improved parking facilities.
Lord Mayor of Belfast, Alderman Brian Kingston commented: "As part of our Investment Programme, we set aside £14.1 million to improve facilities at ten sites across Belfast, as well as a further £1 million from the GAA. I'm delighted to see this facility open today and that GAA, rugby and soccer enthusiasts alike will be able to enjoy it."
Aogán Ó Fearghaíl, President of the GAA added: "I am delighted to attend the opening of these excellent new multi sport facilities that will be suitable for both training and playing Gaelic games for years to come."

Ulster GAA has announced it support for the 'Share the Road to Zero' campaign, pledging its commitment to improving road safety. The Northern Ireland Football League, PSNI, Northern Ireland Ambulance Service, Northern Ireland Fire and Rescue Service and councils are among other organisations that have signed up to the campaign.

Communities Minister: Casement Park Is A Key Priority
Communities Minister Deirdre Hargey has identified the completion of Casement Park as a "key priority" for her department. Deirdre Hargey MLA met with Ulster GAA officials at the west Belfast site to discuss furthering the project. Minister Hargey said she is determined to see the project started as soon as possible.

Shadow NI Secretary of State Vernon Coaker has hailed L'Derry for its "beauty and vibrancy" on a tour of the city at the weekend. SDLP Foyle MP Mark Durkan joined the Shadow Secretary and his wife on a tour of Derry, during which the couple attended their first GAA match and cheered on runners in the Walled City Marathon.
