Father And Son 'Critical' Following Lightning Strike

A man and his five-year-old son are in a critical condition in hospital after being struck by lightning outside a school in Lisburn, Co Antrim.

The man's seven-year-old daughter is in a stable condition following the incident at Killowen Primary School on Tuesday afternoon, 07 June.

The man has been transferred to the Ulster Hospital in Dundonald and his son and daughter, who sustained serious burns, are being treated at the Royal Victoria Hospital in Belfast.

SDLP Lisburn Councillor Pat Catney said the local community is "stunned".

He said: "This is an absolute tragedy. My thoughts are with the man and his son who have been taken to different hospitals in a critical condition.

"There's no preparing for an incident of this nature. I want to put on the record my sincere appreciation for the speed with which the ambulance service responded as well as the great efforts of teachers and parents to make the area safe for other children at the school.

"My prayers and the prayers of this entire community are with the family at this very difficult time."
