Man Charged With Historical Murders

A man has been charged with a number of offences, including two counts of murder.

The 65-year-old was arrested on Tuesday, 31 May, in Belfast and on Thursday, 02 June. Police were granted additional time to question him.

The charges relate to the murders of John Benedict Devine in the Fallswater Street area of West Belfast on 23 July 1989, and John Joseph Gerard O'Hara in the Dunluce Avenue area of South Belfast on 17 April 1991.

The accused is due to appear at Laganside Magistrates Court today, 06 June.

Man Charged With Human Trafficking And Controlling Prostitution
Police have charged a 33-year-old man with human trafficking and controlling prostitution offences. The suspect was arrested in Belfast by detectives from the PSNI Modern Slavery and Human Trafficking Unit as part of an operation on Wednesday, 20 June. He is due to appear at Belfast Magistrates Court today, 22 June.

Man Charged Over Fatal Stabbing In Belfast
An 18-year-old man has been charged with the murder of Hazem Ahmed Ghreir. Mr Ghreir, aged in his 30s, was fatally stabbed in the Downshire Place area in Belfast on Sunday, 04 June. The suspect is to appear at Belfast Magistrates' Court today, Wednesday, 07 June. Mr Ghreir's death is not being treated as a hate crime.

Two released in Loughinisland murder investigation
Two people arrested yesterday in connection with the with the murder of six men in County Down in 1994, have been released without charge. The 45-year-old man and 38-year-old woman were arrested in the greater Belfast area yesterday morning and were held for questioning at the serious crime suite in Antrim.

Lawyer considers client's 'overexposure'
The lawyer of a senior north Belfast loyalist has warned that he may report the Chief Constable, Sir Hugh Orde, and an unnamed Sunday newspaper editor to the Attorney General for over exposure of his client. Ihab Shoukri, from Alliance Road, was today remanded on continuing bail charged two counts of being a member of the UDA/UFF.
