Man Convicted Of Benefit Fraud

A man has been convicted for claiming benefits he was not entitled to at Omagh Crown Court.

James McCaugherty claimed Income Support and Rates Relief totalling £18,164 while failing to declare capital. He was given a one month prison sentence suspended for two years.

He is also required to repay any outstanding money wrongfully obtained.

Co Tyrone Driver Fined And Disqualified For Taxi Licensing And Insurance Offences

A Co Tyrone driver has been fined and disqualified from driving for three months at Dungannon Magistrates' Court.

Mr Andrew Stephen Canavan pleaded guilty and was fined £150 for using an unlicensed taxi, £200 for having no taxi driver's licence, £100 for having no taxi operator’s licence and £350 for having no insurance.

On 01 August 2015, a Driver & Vehicle Agency (DVA) Enforcement Officer noted a car driven by Mr Canavan stop outside a nightclub in Cookstown with five female passengers on board. Mr Canavan was observed receiving payment from the passengers.

Further investigations were carried out at the scene and follow up checks revealed that Mr Canavan did not hold a taxi driver's licence or a taxi operator's licence. The vehicle was not licensed or insured for use as a public service vehicle.

Police Revisit Scene Of Fatal Road Crash

Police have revisited the scene of a fatal collision which occurred on the Collin Road, Ballyclare on Monday, 02 May.

Constable Trevor Fletcher said: "A black Volkswagen Amarok, a silver Vauxhall Vectra and a red Volkswagen Golf were involved in the collision in which a man in his 50's died.

"I would appeal to anyone who was travelling on the Collin Road at around 7pm on the evening of Monday, 2 May and who may have witnessed this collision to contact Police on the non-emergency number 101."
