Lisburn firm fined over Forklift sale

A Lisburn firm has been fined £1,500 after being convicted of making false statements in relation to the year of manufacture of a forklift truck.

The case, against NM Forktrucks Limited, was brought to court by the Department of Enterprise, Trade and Investment's Trading Standards Service (TSS).

NM Forktrucks pleaded guilty at Lisburn Magistrate’s Court to describing a forklift truck they sold as manufactured in 1997 when in fact the truck was actually 10 years older.

Commenting on the case, a TSS spokesperson said: "We view cases of this type very seriously because purchasers of equipment of this type often have to rely on the seller’s descriptions of it’s age, especially as these vehicles do not normally come with a log book as in the case of cars and other vehicles used on the road.

“The judgement should send a warning to all traders to ensure their advertising and descriptions applied to products are accurate. The Trading Standards Service will not hesitate to investigate other companies we suspect of making false statements about the goods they sell."

Any member of the public concerned about the credibility of a business or descriptions about its products or services should contact TSS on 028 9025 3900.
