Homes evacuated following pipe bomb alert
West Belfast was the scene of a security alert last night after two pipe bombs were found.
Around 60 homes in the St James' Avenue area had to be evacuated as army bomb experts dealt with the devices.
The two bombs were eventually made safe and taken away for examination.
Elsewhere, army bomb experts were called to Ballymena following an explosion inside a telephone box.
The incident, which occurred in Desmesne Street, was eventually found to have been caused by a firework.

North Belfast Device 'Elaborate Hoax'
Homes were evacuated in north Belfast on Sunday following the discovery of suspicious object. Stanhope Street was closed as Army bomb experts examined the device, it was later declared an "elaborate hoax". The alert lasted for several hours, but residents were eventually allowed to the return to their homes, and the street was opened to traffic.

Viable Pipe Bomb Found In North Belfast
A viable pipe bomb has been found in north Belfast, police have confirmed. Police and army bomb experts discovered the device in the garden of a house in Shore Crescent on Monday. The pipe bomb has been removed for further examination. Police are appealing for anyone with information to contact them.

Police Appeal Following Burglary In Ahoghill
Detectives are appealing for information following a report of a burglary in Ahoghill on Tuesday, 12th November. Police received a report that the back door of a house on the Ballymena Road was forced open shortly before 6pm.

Viable Device Found In Co Tyrone
A viable device has been found following a security alert near Strabane, County Tyrone. A device was found on Ballyheather Road on Tuesday. The road has now been re-opened between the junctions of the Lisdivin Road and Clogher Road. Police and army bomb experts attended the scene.

Carrick Security Alert Declared A Hoax
A security alert has ended in Carrickfergus, Co Antrim. The alert, in the Broadlands area, is the third alert in just over a week. Police and army bomb experts attended the scene on Monday following the discovery of two suspicious objects in the area. Residents were evacuated from their homes.
