Armed Gang Threaten Householders In Belfast

Four men, two armed with guns and claiming to be from a paramiltary organisation, have threatened householders in Belfast.

The incident happened at a house in the Donegall Avenue area just after 3.30am on Tuesday.

The gang threatened the residents and made off.

Detective Inspector Mary White said: "The males all spoke with local accents. They all wore balaclavas, dark clothing and jeans. It is believed one may also have been armed with a barbell.

"We are appealing for anyone with information or who may have witnessed anything suspicious in the area at the time of the incident to contact detectives from Reactive and Organised Crime branch in Musgrave on 101."

Alliance South Belfast Assembly candidate Paula Bradshaw said: "Thugs such as these have no place in our society.

"We need to remove the poison of paramilitarism - it brings fear and violence to our streets when the vast majority of people wish to move forwards towards a shared society."
