Police have launched an investigation after a pensioner was hit on the head with a stick during a robbery in east Belfast.
The incident happened at Ashton Gardens in the Upper Newtownards Road area at around 4pm on Monday.
The victim, aged in her 90's, had her handbag stolen and is currently being treated in hospital.
The attacker has been described as aged in his 60's, approximately 5ft 6inches tall and of thin build. He was wearing a flat cap and rain jacket, possibly grey in colour.
East Belfast Alliance Assembly candidate Chris Lyttle said: "Any right-thinking person would condemn this sort of incident utterly.
"This comes only days after a woman in her 70s was knocked to the ground during an assault in which her handbag was stolen. It is a shocking series of events and I hope the police are able to take the thugs behind them off the streets.
"I hope the lady is able to make a full recovery from what must have been a traumatic incident for her and I would encourage anyone with information to contact police immediately."
