Ulster Bank Seeks 60 Redundancies

Finance union IBOA has expressed concerns after the Ulster Bank told staff it is seeking up to 60 redundancies from its branches in Northern Ireland.

The bank also said it is to stop Saturday opening hours at 11 of its branches from 07 May.

The branches affected are: Armagh, Ballymena, Bangor, Coleraine, Downpatrick, Dungannon, Enniskillen, Magherafelt, Newtownards, Omagh and Portadown.

"Staff in retail banking are the human face of Ulster Bank who engage directly with customers every minute of every day. They know the challenges customers face and do their utmost to help and provide quality service to customer," said Union General Secretary, Larry Broderick.

"Reducing the number of staff in these crucial roles is not sustainable in the long term. It is being driven by a short-term cost-cutting agenda."

Bank 'Needs Another Week' For Backlog Payments
Ulster Bank has apologised to its customers but said it still needs another week to deal with the backlog of transactions caused by an "unprecedented" technical failure. A software problem on Wednesday meant tens of thousands of accounts were not updated, wages and benefits were not paid in and direct debits did not go out.

Ulster Bank Payments Delayed Further
A bank that has been plagued with technical difficulties over the past few days has said its payments system will not be fully up and running until Monday. Although Ulster Bank said the days-long backlog would be resolved today, many customers are still unable to access recent payments.

Ulster Bank To Close 11 NI Branches
Ulster Bank has confirmed it plans to close 11 branches next year in Northern Ireland. The bank confirmed it will be seeking 40 voluntary redundancies as a result of the closures. The branches to close are: Ballyclare, Dromore, Moira, Draperstown, Dungiven, Portrush, Killyleagh, Rathfriland, Castlederg, Irvinestown and Stewartstown.

Ulster Bank Branches To Close
Ulster Bank has announced it is to close a further 10 branches across Northern Ireland. It follows news earlier in the month when the bank's chief executive in NI said that more branch closures were "inevitable". The move has been blamed on changing customer behaviour, such as more people banking online.

Ulster Bank To Close Nine Branches In NI
Ulster Bank is set to close nine branches across Northern Ireland as more customers move to online and mobile banking. The branches, which will start to close in September through to mid-October, are in Holywood, Warrenpoint, Dunmurry, Antrim, Ballymoney, Larne, Comber, Maghera and Clogher.
