Lottery boost gives NI parents quality childcare choice
The New Opportunities Fund today announced lottery grants to transform childcare facilities in communities across Northern Ireland.
Grants totalling £437,672 have been awarded to nine innovative schemes under the Building Quality Childcare programme to create vital outdoor play areas where none existed before, construct new buildings and equipment and to pay for the refurbishment of existing premises.
Childcare projects in Coleraine, Londonderry, Limavady, Fermanagh, Ballycastle and Belfast have secured funding in this latest round of awards which were developed in conjunction with Childcare Partnerships to enable children to access good quality childcare provision.
Walter Rader, the New Opportunities Fund’s Director in Northern Ireland, said: “These latest grants demonstrate the Fund’s commitment to working with local communities to support the creation of quality childcare places by investing in new and existing buildings.
"I look forward to seeing the long-term benefits which the Building Quality Childcare programme will have for children, families and the wider community in Northern Ireland.”
Childcare Partnership development workers in each health board area are helping groups apply for funding under this new grant programme.
Groups that have successfully completed stage one of the application process are now being considered at stage 2.
