Man Charged With Murder Of Prison Officer

A man has appeared in court charged with the murder of prison officer Adrian Ismay.

Mr Ismay, 52, died after being injured by a bomb which went off under the van he was driving on Hillsborough Drive on 04 March.

He died as a direct result of the injuries he sustained during the explosion.

The 'New IRA' admitted responsibility for the attack.

Christopher Alphonsos Robinson, from the Dunmurry area, appeared before Belfast Magistrates Court today, 18 March, charged with the murder of Mr Ismay. He had previously been charged with attempted murder, however the charge was upgraded following a postmortem.

A second postmortem is to be carried out on the body of Mr Ismay and the results will be known in the coming days.

Prison Officer Injured In Bomb Attack Dies
A prison officer who was injured after a bomb went off under the van he was driving has died. The incident happened in the Hillsborough Drive area in east Belfast on 04 March. A group calling itself the New IRA claimed responsibility for the attack. A man has appeared in court charged with attempted murder in connection with the incident.

A 50-year-old Belfast man has been jailed for a minimum of 22 years for the 2016 murder of prison officer Adrian Ismay. Christopher Robinson was convicted of the murder of the prison officer in January this year, and received a mandatory life sentence.

Man Charged Over Ian Ogle's Murder
A 33-year-old man has been charged with the murder of east Belfast community worker Ian Ogle. The defendant, Jonathon Brown from Belfast, appeared at Belfast Magistrates' Court this morning, Friday 08 December. He is due to appear again next month.
