Investigations Launch After On Remand Prisoner Dies
An investigation has been launched after a prisoner who was on remand at Maghaberry Prison in Co Antrim died after being admitted to hospital.
The 24-year-old man died on Monday, 22 February, after being taken from prison to hospital on Thursday, 11 February.
The coroner, police and Prisoner Ombudsman have all launched investigations into the death.
Prison Service Director General Sue McAllister said: "I extend my sympathy and that of the Northern Ireland Prison Service to the family of the prisoner who has sadly died. This is a tragedy and my thoughts are with them at this difficult time."

Prison Response To Collapsed Inmate 'Inadequate' - Ombudsman
The Prisoner Ombudsman for Northern Ireland has described as "inadequate" the response by staff at Maghaberry Prison to a prisoner who collapsed in his cell and subsequently died. 46-year-old David Brown died from a brain haemorrhage at an outside hospital on 15 December 2012, while in the custody of Maghaberry Prison.

An inquiry is underway after an armed robber was mistakenly set free from a prison in Dublin. Mark Kenny, 35, an inmate at Dublin’s Mountjoy Prison serving six years for armed robbery was freed three years before he was due to be released. He had been mistaken for another prisoner of the same name.

53-Year-Old Dies In Custody At Maghaberry Prison
A 53-year-old has reportedly died in custody at Maghaberry Prison, the Northern Ireland Prison Service has announced. The Department of Justice has reported that the prisoner died on Saturday 28 August, that his next of kin have been informed and that the death was not covid related.
