Infrastrata Leases Small Part Of Woodburn Forest
Independent firm Infrastrata has leased a small part of the Woodburn Forest near Carrickfergus, NI Water has confirmed.
The work to drill an an exploratory oil well was awarded under a licence by the Department of Enterprise Trade and Investment (DETI).
All work is subject to the approval and agreement of the planning authorities, DETI and Forest Service. The firm cannot drill a permanent well without obtaining planning permission.
The safeguarding of water quality is of primary importance to NI Water, and the company is satisfied that the proposed work will have no detrimental impact upon the impounding reservoir or the public water supply.

Man Arrested During Protest At Woodburn Forest
Police have arrested a 57-year-old man during a protest at the drill site at Woodburn Forest near Carrickfergus, Co Antrim. Protesters carried out a "slow walk" ahead of an equipment convoy and a man scaled a rig forcing the convoy to stop. The man arrested at the scene has been released on police bail.

Gas storage firm Infrastrata has confirmed on its website that it has started drilling at Woodburn Forest in Co Antrim. However, those monitoring the site said there is no evidence that work is underway. Alliance MLA Stewart Dickson said confirmation was needed around the situation at the site.
