Invest NI And Asda Launch Initiative For Local Food Businesses

Invest NI in association with Asda and local food buisnesses have launched a new initiative in support of the Northern Ireland Year of Food.

Welcoming the initiative, East Belfast DUP MLA Robin Newton, said: "Northern Ireland food has a growing reputation for excellence and is being sought by leading chefs from restaurants with established reputations. Those shopping on a family budget are also actively seeking out local produce for its flavour and value for money price tag.

"This partnership strategy to further explore and develop business opportunities between the Northern Ireland food suppliers and the giant Asda supermarket chain has the potential to create additional jobs and strengthen the sector.

"Known as the Asda Supplier Development Academy the businesses will discuss Asda’s supply chain, account management, marketing and innovation.

"The support from Invest NI is vital, and I welcome their role in supporting such a partnership approach; It is the type of innovative approach that can be built upon."
