New Ulster Orchestra Outreach Initiative Launched
A new Ulster Orchestra community outreach initiative has been launched by First Minister Arlene Foster, Deputy First Minister Martin McGuinness, and Culture, Arts and Leisure Minister Carál Ní Chuilín.
The Music Room project will see the Ulster Orchestra deliver workshops, concerts, master classes and educational collaborations to local schools, community groups and arts organisations.
Speaking at an event in Stormont, First Minister Arlene Foster said: "It gives me great pleasure to launch the Ulster Orchestra's new Music Room programme. The Ulster Orchestra has for many years brought the best of music and musical talent to the people of Northern Ireland.
"This innovative new scheme will enable the Orchestra to reach out to and engage with people of all ages, from all communities and backgrounds, particularly those who might not normally have the opportunity to experience live music.
"The Music Room will enable the orchestra to build strong relationships with local schools and other organisations to make music an accessible and enjoyable aspect of life throughout Northern Ireland.
"I congratulate the Ulster Orchestra for establishing the Music Room and wish them every success as they take the project forward."
The deputy First Minster Martin McGuinness added: "The Ulster Orchestra continues to make an immense contribution not just to the world of music but to wider society. Music is a powerful and positive force and through the efforts of the Ulster Orchestra it continues to enhance and enrich all our lives.
"The Music Room programme will help continue and grow the tradition of reaching out and nurturing musical talent and participation. This programme is not only about seeing the players perform, but about engaging with them directly, to learn from them and be inspired to take up music.
"I commend the Ulster Orchestra for enhancing their community engagement in this way and wish them continued success in bringing the magic and enjoyment of music to participants and audiences alike."
