Met Office Issues Yellow Weather Warning For Ice

Motorists are being urged to take care after a yellow weather warning for ice has been issued across Northern Ireland.

The warning comes into effect at around 6pm on Tuesday, 02 February, until 10am on Wednesday morning.

Wintry showers are also expected with a minimum temperature of 1 degrees.

NI Power Firm To Cut Electricity Prices By 8.6%

NI power firm Open Electric has announced it is to cut its electricity prices by 8.6% with immediate effect.

The company, which launched last year, confirmed that the discount also applies to keypad and credit bill customers.

Open Electric said that from 01 February, its new tariff rate would be 13.39p per kWh (including VAT), a cut of 8.6 per cent and now the cheapest available in Northern Ireland.

Open Electric Managing Director, Marc Norris, said: "We launched into a competitive market with a compelling offer of simplicity, transparency and a pledge to support our loyal customers and we are pleased to be able to announce what is a significant cut in our retail price, which will benefit customers right across Northern Ireland.

"With Open Electric, there are no confusing contract tie-ins linked to temporary discounts. We provide one simple competitive rate and a choice of free billing options. It really is that simple."

Stormont Welcomes World Superbike Champion Jonathan Rea

World superbike champion Jonathan Rea has been welcomed to Stormont to celebrate his success in the 2015 World Superbike Championship.

The event was hosted by Gordon Dunne MLA and First Minister Arlene Foster joined the celebration to mark this historic success.

The special tribute recognised Jonathan's remarkable success when he stormed to 14 race victories as he became Northern Ireland’s fourth ever World Motorcycle Champion, following in the wheel tracks of the late great Joey Dunlop back in 1986, Brian Reid and Ralph Bryans.

Arlene Foster said: "It was a great pleasure to meet and congratulate Jonathan on his remarkable achievement in becoming World Superbike Champion. Jonathan is a fantastic ambassador for Northern Ireland in a country with such a rich motorsport heritage. I wish him well for the future as he seeks to defend his World Superbike crown in 2016."

The Ulster Unionist Party (UUP) has said that the latest figures from the Trussell Trust demonstrates the stark reality of life for many households across Northern Ireland. The Trussell Trust has highlighted that the number of food parcels handed out by food banks has increased by 25%, with 10,000 more people seeking help for the first time.
