Xtra-Vision Ceases Trading

Rental chain Xtra-Vision is to close 11 stores in Northern Ireland, with the loss of around 60 jobs.

The firm was placed into liquidation on Wednesday morning.

In total, approximately 580 workers are expected to lose their jobs in the Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland, and a further 71 stores are to shut down in RoI.

Mr Michael McAteer from Grant Thorton Ireland was appointed provisional liquidator at a High Court sitting.

All stores have ceased trading from today, 27 January.

Two Dixons stores to close in Northern Ireland
Dixons have announced that they are to close two of their Northern Ireland stores. The stores in Bangor and Newry are to be closed, with the loss of 24 jobs in Bangor and eight jobs in Newry. However, Dixons, who also own Currys, PC World and The Link, are hoping to redeploy the staff to other stores.

As part of a major three-year expansion plan, supermarket giant Iceland has launched a property search to find eight new sites for outlets in Northern Ireland. The property search launched this week is part of a nationwide campaign to locate suitable sites for a planned company extension of 80 stores throughout the United Kingdom.

Hundreds Of BHS Jobs Lost
It is understood around 200 jobs are to go at four BHS department stores in Northern Ireland. The stores are located in Belfast, Holywood, Lisburn and Newtownabbey. On Thursday, it was announced that the retailer is to go into liquidation after efforts to find a buyer for the store failed. In total, up to 11,000 jobs will be lost across the UK.

Over 170 Jobs To Be Lost After Lisburn Firm Goes Into Liquidation
Over 170 jobs are to be lost after a construction company in Co Antrim announced it has gone into liquidation. McGrath Bros in Lisburn said 171 jobs are to go across sites in Northern Ireland, Birmingham, London and South East England. 121 of the jobs are at its Lisburn site in Northern Ireland.
