Minister announces relocation of Foyle and Londonderry College
Education Minister, Jane Kennedy today announced approval for the relocation of Foyle & Londonderry College to a greenfield site at Gransha/Stradreagh on the East Bank of the River Foyle.
Ms Kennedy described the decision making process as "drawn out" but believed her final decision would bring to an end the uncertainty that all those involved have lived with over the last number of months.
She said: “The school currently operates on two separate sites some half a mile apart. This split-site arrangement is uneconomical to run and the majority of the classrooms, on both sites, are inadequate and undersized.
"A new school on a single site will address these serious accommodation deficiencies and result in an improved use of resources."
The Minister said her decision was made in the best interests of the school and its present and prospective pupils.
Foyle and Londonderry College is an 11-18, co-educational voluntary grammar school formed by the amalgamation of Foyle College and Londonderry High School in 1976.
