UUP Selects Two Assembly Candidates For East Belfast
The Ulster Unionist Party (UUP) has selected two Assembly candidates for east Belfast.
MLA Andy Allen and Dr Chris McGimpsey have been chosen and leader of the UUP Mike Nesbitt said he is 'delighted' with the combination the party is offering the people of east Belfast.
He said: "Andy Allen's record of service and sacrifice as a soldier in the Army is beyond question and since replacing Michael Copeland at Stormont, he has shown equal commitment and determination as a public representative.
"Chris McGimpsey has a lifetime's experience in politics, both as an elected member and as a campaigner capable of mobilising public opinion and challenging governments at the highest level. He remains passionate about delivering better outcomes from Stormont."
Mr Allen said: "I am honoured to be selected as an Ulster Unionist Party candidate to stand in this year's Northern Ireland Assembly election for East Belfast.
"I look forward to the weeks and months ahead in continuing to get out on the doors, meeting and speaking to the people of the constituency.
"My pledge to the people of East Belfast, which reflects the commitment of my Party across Northern Ireland, is to continue to do what is right for each business, individual and family – working hard until the job is done is the most important aspect of politics."
Dr Chris McGimpsey said: "We have seen the failures of Sinn Fein and the DUP over the last number of years. Northern Ireland can be a better place for all.
"We need effective government from a party with a track record of delivering. That party is the Ulster Unionist Party and I want to deliver for the electors of East Belfast."
