Man Remanded In Custody Over Murder Of James McDonagh

A man has been remanded in custody charged with murder of James McDonagh.

Mr McDonagh, 28, from Castledawson, was assaulted outside the Elk Inn on the Hillhead Road in Toomebridge on Sunday.

He was taken to the Royal Victoria Hospital, however he died from his injuries on Monday.

24-year-old Finbar McCoy appeared before L'Derry Magistrates Court on Thursday.

He is due to appear in court on 11 February.

Mr McDonagh, who was 18 years old, died from an injury to his leg, after a verbal exchange escalated to a physical altercation.

'You've Got The Wrong Brother' Says Man Up In Court
A man in the dock of Londonderry Magistrates Court today claimed he was actually the accused's brother. Martin Michael McDonagh, of Daisyfield caravan site, Letterkenny Road, faces 10 offences including having a .22 rifle. But when the court clerk asked the man in the dock today to confirm his name, he said he was Ned McDonagh, Martin's brother.

Man remanded over brother's murder
A 43-year-old man has appeared in court today charged with the murder of his brother. William McMillan, 58, died following a knife attack in the Belvoir area last Friday. He had been stabbed in the back and chest at a flat in Grays Park Drive and later died in Belfast’s Royal Victoria Hospital.
