Six-Year-Old Girl Dies In Co Down Collision
A six-year-old girl has died following a car crash in Newry, Co Down.
Ella Trainor was killed in the collision with another car and a tractor on the Hilltown Road at around 9.55am on Saturday.
Two women, aged 42 and 24, are currently being treated for their injuries at Daisy Hill Hospital.
Police are appealing for witnesses to contact them.
SDLP South Down MLA Karen McKevitt said: "It is with great sadness that I learned of the tragic death of a young child following a car accident outside Newry.
"Earlier today I was at the scene with Deputy Chairperson of Newry, Mourne and Down Council Gillian Fitzpatrick and I called on drivers to remain cautious when on the roads during winter.
"The Hilltown road has seen several accidents over the past year and only last week had to deal with dangerous flooding so it has been deeply upsetting that another fatal accident has ensued.
"During the period following Christmas and outset of a new year it is tremendously heart-breaking to hear that such a young life has been lost and my thoughts and prayers are with the family at this terrible time."
