Met Office Issues Yellow Weather Warning For Some Parts Of NI
The Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning for heavy rain in some parts of Northern Ireland.
The rain is expected to be heavy on Monday after in Counties Antrim, L'Derry, Fermanagh and Tyrone.
Travel is also expected to be disrupted and more flooding is expected.
Many roads have been closed due to flooding caused by Storm Desmond over the weekend.
Environment Minister Mark H Durkan has activated, with immediate effect, an emergency scheme for householders affected by the recent flooding across NI.
He said: "Individual householders will be eligible for a £1,000 payment as an offer of practical assistance to those who have suffered severe inconvenience, to ensure homes are made habitable as quickly as possible. I realise that it's not just homes but businesses and community buildings which can be damaged from severe flooding. That's why I'm working to try to have the scheme extended so these premises can also apply for emergency financial assistance. It is not a compensation payment."
SDLP Fermanagh and South Tyrone Councillor John Coyle said: "Last week I called for a renewed look at flooding management for the region, I was dismayed to discover that no one seems to want responsibility for the issue when I was pointed towards both the Rivers Agency and Transport NI in seeking resolution. It is also unfortunate that there is no joined up approach to flooding North and South, especially in border towns such as Pettigo.
"I intend to not only push the DARD Minister Michelle O'Neill to ensure more rapid flood responses but I further call on both Donegal Council and Fermanagh and Omagh Council to take a joint approach on the issue."
