Five Guys Burgers And Fries Opens In Belfast
Five Guys Burgers and Fries will officially open in Belfast's Victoria Square Shopping Centre on Monday 07 December.
Famed for its made to order burgers with a vast choice of toppings, customisable at no extra charge, and Five Guys fries, the new home for Five Guys Belfast is located on level 1 in Victoria Square with the creation of over 50 full and part time jobs.
The Irish franchise has been bought by brothers Brett, Ross and Dery Desmond.
Having experienced Five Guys first hand whilst living in the United States and 'product testing' on a regular basis, Brett, Ross and Dery Desmond were taken by the incredible food and how Five Guys was all about the customer experience, quality and cleanliness. They also saw how the Murrell family (who founded Five Guys) had created a culture that puts the Five Guys Crew first, creating a unique atmosphere in each store.
Speaking ahead of the opening, the Desmond brothers said: "We are delighted to be standing here in our first Five Guys restaurant. We are working on opening a number of outlets in Ireland, and it’s fantastic to see our first Five Guys outlet in Victoria Square come to fruition. We chose this location as it is such an iconic shopping centre in the heart of Belfast City, with a really strong tenant mix. We hope that it will be a big hit with shoppers and will give people even more reason to visit Victoria Square."
Northern Irish customers can expect to receive an authentic Five Guys experience in Belfast, just as they would in the U.S. The Murrell family and their team have ensured that every Five Guys restaurant, from the food to the layout, is consistent around the world. Belfast Store Manager, Nelson Shanks, and his team of five assistant managers, spent a month in the States training and experiencing the Five Guys culture and six Five Guys trainers have been flown over to teach the new Belfast Five Guys Crew all they need to know.
Victoria Square Centre Manager, Michelle Greeves, said: "We are absolutely thrilled to be welcoming Five Guys to Victoria Square and feel privileged to be chosen as its first location in Ireland. The brand will perfectly complement our existing offering and further boost footfall to the centre as Five Guys has such an incredible following. The restaurant unit has been extensively extended, now spanning 2,800 sq ft, and we’re incredibly excited for the unveiling pre-Christmas."
Next up for the Desmond Brothers are plans to roll out 10 restaurants over the coming two to three years, with Dublin being the next location for a new Five Guys restaurant. The ultimate plan is to have Five Guys restaurants located in all the major cities in Ireland and Northern Ireland with Dublin, Cork, Limerick, Galway and Derry/ L’Derry being high up on the Desmond brothers' wish list.

Booze Ruling Halts Asda's Store Plans
One of the world's largest supermarket groups has abandoned plans to open a second store in the north Belfast area - because it has been refused permission to sell alcohol. Asda has pulled out of plans for a branch at the old Hillview Retail Park on the Crumlin Road because "none of their branches operated without a beer, wine and spirits licence".

Company wins £50m McDonalds contract
A west Belfast packaging firm has secured a £50 million contract to supply McDonald’s European fast food restaurants for the next five years. Delta Print & Packaging, who are based in Kennedy Way in Belfast, currently employ around 170 people.

€4bn Irish Trade Surplus Welcomed
It has emerged that the latest trade statistics indicating a €4.079bn seasonally adjusted trade surplus in June is the highest figure in a decade. Trade Minister Richard Bruton has welcomed the news and said that the figures show that the value of exports in June 2011 was up 5.6% compared to June 2010, at €8.343bn.

Empty NI Water HQ Costing £36K
The former headquarters of beleaguered Northern Ireland Water (NIW) has cost the taxpayer well over £30,000 in the last five months - just to maintain an empty building. The news comes just a week after it emerged that NIW had paid out more than £3m in legal fees since 2007 with its former HQ now in focus.
