FSB to launch five point plan ahead of any elections

The Federation of Small Businesses (FSB) in Northern Ireland is to launch a five-point plan if the Assembly Elections are given the go ahead, it has been announced.

In a speech to the FSB Seminar – Key Challenges Facing Small Businesses at Belfast Castle on Thursday evening, the Federation's Parliamentary Officer, Glyn Roberts said the plan would cover some of the key issues that the FSB is campaigning on, and which they are hoping will be endorsed by every candidate and his or her party.

"We will do every thing we can to encourage the business community to get out and vote and also to encourage our members to vote only for political parties who have a positive policy agenda for small businesses in Northern Ireland," Mr Roberts said.

“We estimate that in each of the 18 constituencies in Northern Ireland there is between 5,000 – 8,000 small businesses. So it is a crucial constituency in its own right, which no political party can ignore.

“So with all we are doing, it is not just about lobbying it is much more. It is about developing positive engagement between the business community and local politicians, which we hope, will enhance, empower and above all understand each other."

Mr Roberts said politics in Northern Ireland needed to change, so that people from the Business Community could get involved so that a pro-enterprise, pro-jobs and pro-prosperity Northern Ireland could be created.

“Small Businesses are contributing millions of pounds in taxation, which is helping to create wealth and ensure that key Government services are provided. If you want to redistribute wealth, you have to create it in the first place.

“The only way you will tackle unemployment, poverty and provide social justice is to have a dynamic and thriving small business sector, which is able to provide employment in every part of Northern Ireland," he concluded.
